Universal and Starbucks Have Big News for Millions of Guests

For nearly three months, a familiar ritual was missing at Universal Orlando Resort. Guests walking into CityWalk would glance over at the Starbucks near the lagoon—only to find the windows hidden behind tarps. For travelers who rely on that morning caffeine kick before hitting the rides, it felt like something was missing from the Universal experience.

That long wait has officially come to an end. As of September 10, 2025, the Starbucks at CityWalk has reopened following an extended refurbishment. While the outside may look only slightly altered, the interior tells a very different story. Bright new colors, updated furniture, and a striking wall mural are just a few of the details catching the attention of fans.

So, what exactly changed, and how can you make the most of your next visit? Let’s take a closer look.

What Changed at Starbucks CityWalk

Universal’s popular coffee stop has undergone a full transformation:

  • Lighter Interior: The once dark, industrial-style look has been replaced with pale wood, soft greens, and natural tones that feel much more open.

  • New Seating: Wood chairs with tall backs and pale green bench cushions give the space a brighter, more polished feel.

  • Outdoor Refresh: Patio tables have been swapped from brown to sleek black and gray.

  • Artistic Update: A brand-new mural by artist Mike Willcox, known for his Starbucks drinkware designs, now stretches across the interior wall, featuring a mermaid surrounded by colorful aquatic details.

  • Modern Fixtures: Geometric orb lights and pale wood shelving add a clean, updated look.

Even the exterior sign has changed. Instead of “Starbucks Coffee,” the storefront now simply reads “Starbucks.”

Best Ways To Visit

If you’re planning to grab your favorite drink here, a little strategy can make your stop much smoother:

  • Beat the Rush: The busiest times tend to be mornings before park entry and evenings before closing. Arrive earlier or wait until midday for faster service.

  • Mobile Order: Place your order in the Starbucks app ahead of time and skip standing in line.

  • Relax Outside: The shaded patio is still one of the best spots at CityWalk to sit and recharge while watching the crowds pass by.

Little Extras You Might Miss

Beyond the obvious updates, there are a few small perks regulars have already noticed:

  • More Charging Outlets: Perfect for topping off your phone battery before heading back into the parks.

  • Quieter Atmosphere: This shop is often less hectic than in-park Starbucks locations, especially in the mid-afternoon lull.

  • Instagram-Ready Wall Art: The new mural is already a hit on social media—worth snapping a photo before lines get long.

Why It’s a Bigger Deal Than You Think

For casual visitors, this might look like just another refurbishment. But for frequent Universal fans, Starbucks at CityWalk is part of the park-day tradition. Starting the day here—or winding down with a drink after fireworks—feels like a ritual, and the refreshed design makes it even more inviting.

Guest reaction on TikTok and Instagram has been strong, with fans praising the lighter atmosphere and bold artwork. The update also reflects Universal’s ongoing efforts to modernize its dining and retail offerings across the resort, ensuring every detail matches the immersive feel of its attractions.

In short, it’s not just a coffee shop—it’s part of the Universal experience.

The Starbucks at Universal CityWalk is back, brighter and fresher than ever. Whether you’re heading into Islands of Adventure, stopping by for an afternoon pick-me-up, or ending your night with a latte, this updated location is ready to be part of your Universal tradition again.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
