Cedar Point Shut Down Due To Hazardous Conditions, Guests Warned To Keep Out

On July 31, 2025, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced the temporary shutdown of Cedar Point Shores Waterpark due to hazardous conditions caused by severe weather. The waterpark will remain closed for the day, and guests have been warned to avoid the area until conditions improve.

Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio, is one of the oldest and most iconic amusement parks in the United States. Known for its thrilling roller coasters and expansive attractions, the park has been a staple of the theme park industry for over 155 years. In 1988, the vacation destination expanded its offerings by opening Soak City, later known as Cedar Point Shores Waterpark.

In addition to severe flooding, Cedar Point faced a tragedy in the last few days. On July 27, 2025, law enforcement responded to an emergency at the theme park’s employee housing complex on First Street in Sandusky. Tragically, an employee passed away after jumping from one of the housing buildings. Out of respect for the employee and their family, no further identifying information was released to the public.

Days later, Cedar Point Shores Waterpark was forced to close due to severe weather conditions. On July 31, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation took to Instagram to notify guests of the waterpark’s temporary shutdown. The official message read:

“Due to weather conditions, Cedar Point Shores Waterpark will not open today, Thursday, July 31. Waterpark tickets purchased for today will be valid until September 1, 2025.”

The Ohio water park is scheduled to resume operations on August 1, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with all water attractions available for guests. However, until that time, guests are advised to stay away from the waterpark area due to ongoing hazardous conditions. Keep an eye on the official Cedar Point website and social media channels for updates regarding any further changes to the operational schedule.
