Get ready to buckle up—Test Track is preparing for a thrilling new journey at EPCOT! Nestled in World Discovery, the iconic attraction is undergoing a full reimagining courtesy of Walt Disney Imagineering and General Motors, promising an experience that celebrates both EPCOT’s legacy and its bold future.
As part of this exciting update, guests will see Test Track draw inspiration from the classic World of Motion—the original ride that once called this pavilion home. The updated attraction is set to reopen on July 22, 2025, and when it does, it will be available in the top tier of the Lightning Lane system. “Get ready to feel the thrill of the open road, the wind in your hair, and nothing but adventure ahead!” the Disney Parks Blog shared. “Test Track presented by General Motors is making its return lap late summer 2025.”
Guests caught a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation earlier this year during Women in Construction Week, when Walt Disney Imagineering offered a rare peek behind the construction walls. In a special Instagram video, Project Engineer Carleigh guided viewers through the site, where the original queue area had been completely cleared out to make room for a new, streamlined design.
Just a few months after that preview, fans were treated to another milestone in the journey—the unveiling of Test Track’s new marquee. Shared on Walt Disney Imagineering’s Instagram, the signage boasts a sleek, illuminated logo that matches the attraction’s upgraded exterior. “Installation of the new marquee at Test Track presented by @generalmotors has begun!” the caption read, offering a first look at the transformation in progress.
This update, first announced during D23 Expo 2024, continues the creative partnership between Walt Disney Imagineering and General Motors. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro emphasized the global scope of Imagineering projects during the event, saying, “Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places… Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving.”
Indeed, the energy is rippling throughout the resort in 2025, both operationally and physically. At Magic Kingdom Park, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure recently made the switch to standby and Lightning Lane access, following in the footsteps of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which saw standby lines reach nearly three hours on its debut. And across Walt Disney World, from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s indefinite closure to progress on the “Beyond Big Thunder” expansion and plans for a Monsters, Inc. land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the future is unfolding fast.
Meanwhile, EPCOT Annual Passholders will be among the first to get behind the wheel of the new Test Track during exclusive preview days via a returning virtual queue. Disney recently confirmed that previews will take place on July 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19. Though July 17 is missing from the list, no explanation has been offered. The My Disney Experience app now outlines how to join the virtual queue, with requests opening at 7:00 a.m. (with a valid Annual Pass and EPCOT reservation) and again at 1:00 p.m. (Annual Pass only). As of now, reservations for July 13 are already filled.
The return of the virtual queue system has generated plenty of discussion, especially after its recent phase-out for other EPCOT and Magic Kingdom attractions. Still, anticipation is running high, with guests eager to see how this new version of Test Track balances cutting-edge design and EPCOT tradition.
For many, Test Track remains a beloved staple—and its upcoming version promises to bring back the magic with a modern edge.
