‘Star Wars’ Stripped From Disney Park With Immediate Effect

Disney has permanently removed a major Star Wars feature from one of its parks.

Star Wars first entered Disney parks in 1987 with the debut of Star Tours at Disneyland—a groundbreaking motion simulator that marked the franchise’s theme park debut. The attraction later expanded to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris, cementing Star Wars as a permanent fixture in the parks long before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.

Since the acquisition, the franchise’s footprint has grown dramatically. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge now anchors Disneyland and Walt Disney World, offering guests a deeply immersive experience on the planet Batuu. Overseas, Hyperspace Mountain overlays have also brought Star Wars to a global theme park audience.

One park, however, seems to be stripping back its Star Wars theming.

The removal was previously teased by a post from Hong Kong Disneyland Ambassadors that showed the park’s ambassadors in front of the X-wing from Star Wars. The caption promised that it would “soon depart for a new mission.”

While some took this to mean that the ride may soon lose its Star Wars theming. Similar rumors have plagued the version of the attraction found at Disneyland Paris (which is notoriously much rougher than the Space Mountains found at the American parks), but have yet to come to fruition.

Disney hasn’t provided an explanation for the X-wing’s exit, which reportedly occurred last month. However, the area has undergone a series of enhancements recently, including larger lanes for Disney Premier Access guests (the equivalent of Lightning Lanes at Hong Kong Disneyland) and a new rest area.

Other Changes Heading to Hong Kong Disneyland

This isn’t the only change hitting Hong Kong Disneyland.

The park is entering a transformative era, with the biggest change a brand-new Marvel ride in the Stark Expo corner of Tomorrowland featuring a brand-new Spider‑Man thrill ride slated for 2026.

Also in the pipeline is a first-of-its-kind Pixar Entertainment Experience nestled between Toy Story Land and World of Frozen, promising immersive attractions based on beloved Pixar films.
