Incident Overview
On July 30, a ferryboat crash occurred at Disney World, specifically as the vessel approached the Transportation and Ticket Center adjacent to the Magic Kingdom. The incident involved the ferryboat crashing into its moorings, significantly injuring several passengers. Initial reports indicated a “hard landing” at approximately 11:40 p.m., prompting calls to 911. Emergency responders arrived on the scene within minutes to assess the aftermath of the crash.

Casualties and Injuries
A total of 19 guests were taken to local hospitals following the incident. Among those injured was a 25-year-old pregnant woman who fell onto her stomach during the crash. The reported injuries varied, including a fractured foot, wrist, and elbow injuries, and other significant trauma. Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene, with one person noting that “people weren’t just falling, they were flying” during the event.

Emergency Response
Upon arrival, emergency personnel classified the situation as a “mass casualty incident,” a designation employed when multiple injuries require immediate medical attention. This classification does not necessarily imply life-threatening injuries but indicates the need for a substantial response. Paramedics from the Osceola and Orange County rescue units were called to assist local teams on-site, enabling a swift response to the developing emergency. In total, 19 guests were transported to four different hospitals for treatment.

Ongoing Investigation and Safety Measures
Disney’s management has not formally responded to requests for comment regarding the crash. Nonetheless, they have implemented some immediate safety precautions in response to the incident. Notably, Disney has begun removing trash cans from ferryboats after reports surfaced of a child being trapped beneath one during the chaotic moment of the crash.

This measure aims to enhance passenger safety while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, ferryboat operations from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom have proceeded as usual, with hopes that future rides will be safe for all guests.
