8 Things You’ll Love About Chef Mickey’s At Walt Disney World

Chef Mickey’s screams Disney to me. I have incredibly fond memories of being a little kid at this great restaurant. It’s fun, energetic, happy, and endlessly delicious! There are so many things to love about Chef Mickey’s, including these eight:

1. Characters

Honestly, I don’t think anyone goes to Chef Mickey’s for the high quality cuisine – I think they go for the characters. Chef Mickey’s is first and foremost a character meal. Throughout your dining experience you’ll meet Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, and Goofy (this is the normal, not the rule). You can get pictures, autographs, and a hug. The classic pals make this dining experience.

2. Location

The location of Chef Mickey’s is really cool. This restaurant sits in the heart of the Contemporary Resort. It was an interesting design choice because the restaurant isn’t tucked away somewhere, but right in the middle of all the action. It’s super easy to get to if you’re staying in the Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower, and easy to access with the Monorail.

3. Buffet

Everybody loves a good buffet from time to time. There’s a breakfast and brunch option (see #5) and dinner seating time. For dinner, expect a hearty American cuisine on the buffet line. Peel and eat shrimp, baked chicken, a carving station and, of course, mac and cheese. Help yourself to as many plates as you want! But make sure to save room for the sundae bar for dessert!

4. My Storybook Moment – with Mickey & Minnie

This is an added feature that is sure to create some Disney magic memories. This is basically a way to add a souvenir into your dining experience. This service is run through Disney Floral and Gifts. You can purchase Mickey or Minnie ears and a “Best Friends” lanyard, and Mickey and Minnie will come over and sign the special gift.

5. Breakfast Option

Disney has plenty of breakfast choices around the Property, but an on-resort, buffet, character breakfast is special. This can either be the main focus of your day, or a fantastic pre-park meal. For breakfast, bring on the Mickey waffles! Or just load up on an entire plate of bacon for your meal – that’s what my cousin does.

6. View

The view at Chef Mickey’s is super fun! I love that Chef Mickey’s sits right in the center of the Contemporary so your view is essentially all of the Resort. The restaurant is in front of massive windows that overlook Bay Lake, towering over you is the 90-foot mural that lives in the center of the resort by Disney legend, Mary Blair, and the monorail goes by all the time!

7. Atmosphere

You’ll love the atmosphere of Chef Mickey’s. It is so laid back and fun. There are some really high-class, fancy, elegant restaurants on Disney property. This is not one of them. And that’s a good thing! Chef Mickey’s is just a good time. This is a restaurant for the family to get together and have fun and laugh and see their favorite characters. I love that.

8. A Table…

Here’s the trick to Chef Mickey’s…it’s tough to get a table. So my last thing you’ll love about Chef Mickey’s is a seat! If you want to experience this awesome restaurant, make sure to book way in advance of your trip. It’s worth it!
