I will admit that I was a slow adapter to Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. All of my “Disney” friends told me how fantastic it was, but with the price tag I was just a little shy to make the commitment. But, once I did I was so glad. My family loves this show and it is so good it has repeatability which is a big plus. Here are 8 reasons why I think you will love it too:
8. The Servers
The servers here are a big part of the production. From bringing you bottomless buckets of ribs and friend chicken to their own little performance to serve dessert they are a lot of hootin’ hollerin’ fun! Every time we have attended the show I’ve been amazed at the servers and their efficiency serving the family style meals to every table, keeping drinks filled, and doing it with great hospitality. From the moment you enter the Pioneer Hall you will feel right at home thanks to the staff.
7. Audience Involvement
The cast of Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue does a fantastic job involving the audience in the production. We have been lucky enough to have our table right up against the stage for two of the productions we’ve attended. But you don’t have to be that close to feel like you are part of the show. During the production the cast comes out into the audience for musical numbers and fun. If you are celebrating at the dinner be ready to be in the spotlight! Some audience members are chose to be featured on stage with very funny roles. And for the grand finale everyone in Pioneer Hall gets their chance to be part of the show.
6. The History
Did you know that Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is one of the longest running Dinner Shows in America? It started in 1974 in Pioneer Hall and has been going strong ever since. The performance and even the menu haven’t really changed in the past 40+ years—except for replacing apple pie with the delicious strawberry shortcake for dessert. The history of this musical means it is a tradition for many families, seeing it year after year. The show includes a part about the Legend of Davy Crocket—paying homage to the classic Disney TV series of the 1950s. 5. Food & Drink
One of the biggest things to love about Hoop Dee Doo Revue is the food . . . and the drinks. Southern Comfort foods are served family style all-you-care-to eat. Pork Ribs slow cooked all day on a smoker, fried chicken, corn, mashed potatoes, baked beans and a green salad (vegetarian options available upon request). And some delicious cornbread! Don’t forget the dessert—that fantastic strawberry shortcake that is presented with some singing & dancing from your server. Another awesome thing you are going to love: the drinks. Unlimited wine, draft beer & sangria for guests 21 and over. What’s not to love about these offerings?
4. Location
While some people may consider the location of Pioneer Hall at Fort Wilderness Campground a hindrance, I think it is a major plus. It does take some effort to get there whether you are using Disney transportation or driving yourself, but once you arrive at the Campground you are in a whole different Disney World. You feel relaxed and you slow down. Plan some time either before or after your show to look around a little bit. Take a look at the animals at the Tri Circle D ranch. Schedule a carriage ride after the show (especially fun when the campers have decorated for Christmas or Halloween). Enjoy Magic Kingdom’s fireworks from the beach, or plan to take the boat back over to the Magic Kingdom for more park fun after Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. I think the location at Fort Wilderness is picture perfect for family fun & memories.
3. The Music
Many of the songs featured in the performance are ones that you know . . .so it makes for a fun & familiar show. Lots of American folk songs that have stood the test of time. Not only does the cast serenade you from the stage, but the come down into the audience to sing. And even during intermissions from the action while you are eating there are live piano players. I guarantee you will go home humming “Hoop Dee Doo . . .Hoop Dee Doo . . .” I am right now.
2. The Comedy
This show makes every person in my family laugh from the adults to the preschoolers, the moody adolescents to the too-cool teenagers. It is good, clean humor that just makes you laugh. Quintessential Disney wrapped up into a musical dinner show. Seriously, one of the best times I’ve had at Walt Disney World . . . laughs for days.
1. The Cast
What makes Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue one of the longest running dinner shows? The Cast. They are the ones who make this show what it is. They are talented, funny and full of energy. You can’t help but be swept up into the show no matter how corny it is. The three “couples” pair off for comedy, singing, and dancing. There is comic relief throughout, but you will love Six Bits & Dolly Drew for absolutely cracking you up, Jim Handy and Flora Long for beautiful songs, and Claire de Lune and Johnny Ringo for their jealous romance and dancing skills (be careful where you look).
I love Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue so much—I am wondering now when I can make our next reservation to see the show. Have you seen Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue? What is your favorite part?
