5 Things You Will Love About Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue has been at the top of my Disney must-do list ever since I saw it with my family as a young girl in the early 1980’s. To this day, my Grandma still screams “Hoop-Dee-Doo” whenever anyone tells her that they are headed to Orlando for a Disney vacation. We have seen the revue 4 more times on our vacations and have a hootin’ and hollerin’ great time every single time we go! The show has been running since 1974, which makes it one of the longest, continuously running musicals in America. The show is held at Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and is a 2 hour vaudeville style hootenanny! The company of six talented musical theater actors have skits, songs and adlibs that will have you stomping your feet, clapping your hands, singing along and in Hoop-Dee-Doo fashion, swinging your napkins and playing washboards with your spoons! But, what will you love best about Hoop-Dee-Doo?

5. Six Bits Slocum

Six Bits is the comic relief for the show and boy, is he hilarious. Between the physical comedy that has the little kids roaring, his quips and comebacks will have the adults in stitches. Poor Six Bits has his hands full with Dolly Drew, his potential love interest, and their quick, witty interactions are hilarious. Six Bits is just so darn loveable and the audience always looks forward to having him on stage. Trust me, you will never forget the Davy Crockett routine featuring Six Bits.

4. All You Can Eat

If eating anything and everything on vacation is your idea of awesome; you are going to love the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue!  When you arrive, salad and cornbread will be waiting! Soon after, fried chicken, smoked pork ribs, mashed potatoes, baked beans will be delivered for family style sharing. If you want more of anything, all you have to do is ask! The last time my family went, we re-ordered ribs 8 times! And, if you have kids with you that are picky eaters, your server will gladly grab mac and cheese, hotdogs or even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the youngins. And, you’ll love the strawberry shortcake for dessert. Yes, you can ask for more of that, too!

3. All You Can Drink

Included in the price is unlimited soft drinks, draft beer, wine and sangria (make sure you bring your ID!) Having a few adult cocktails can be quite pricy, especially with large parties. It’s really great to have a dinner where you don’t have to think about the price rising!

2. The Celebrations are Really Special

If you are celebrating a birthday, graduation or anniversary, you will be acknowledged in several ways! First, the whole gallery joins together for a birthday song. Couples on their honeymoon or celebrating anniversaries are celebrated by the actors and then asked to join in a dance to “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” The actors also try to remember people who are celebrating and call on them, or just refer to them during the show and usually in quite hilarious fashion.

1. The Fun

Hoop-Dee-Doo has been running since 1974 for a really great reason…it’s a lot of fun. It’s a unique experience where you have fun while you dine and get to see some of the world class entertainment that Disney has to offer. While there is a scripted show that is going on, the actors love audience participation and sometimes, the audience members are just as funny as the actors. Kids especially love this show, where they are allowed to sing along, play instruments on the tables and are sometimes selected to come on stage to join in on the fun. No matter what kind of mood you are in when you get to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, I can guarantee you leave with a full belly and a smile!
