The Flying Fish Café has been one of my favorite restaurants at Walt Disney World since it opened in 1996. I am part of a large crowd that considers Flying Fish Café to be a top choice in the Signature dining options, which offer finer dining options at Walt Disney World and will cost 2 table service dining credits on the Disney Dining Plan. Serving dinner only, the Flying Fish Café serves fresh seafood and fare, with an American cooking flare. Due to its location on the Boardwalk, the theme is bright and lively with a nod to amusement parks. Once you are inside, make sure you find the fun house mirrors, decorative roller coaster, Ferris wheel and of course, those parachuting, flying fish! The restaurant is often loud and full of laughter and conversation and you are sure to have a great time! What makes Flying Fish Café special? Here are 5 things you are going to love!
5. Location
Located on the Boardwalk, you will have many options for entertainment after dinner. After dinner, you are just steps from the entrance of Epcot. You can walk to Atlantic Dance Hall for dancing, Jelly Rolls to watch the dueling pianos or ESN Club to watch the game! If you are still craving something sweet, the Boardwalk Bakery offers delicious treats, the Funnel Cake Cart is serving up delicious treats. You can grab a drink at Boardwalk Joe’s Marvelous Margaritas, play carnival style games and live entertainment is around every corner. And, if you need to burn off some calories, you can rent a surrey bike or walk around Crescent Lake. If you have a late reservation, the Boardwalk is one of the livelier spots on Disney property, so you’ll have something to do after your delicious meal!
4. Chef’s Wine Tasting Dinner
Oh. My. Yum. I could really just use those three little words, as they describe our fabulous dinner and special treat so perfectly. Indulge your taste buds with this prix fixe 5 course meal paired with the perfect wine accompaniment. Reservations are available Sunday-Thursday nights with two seatings at 5:30 and 8:15 pm.  From start to finish, you watch your delectable dinner being prepared with the Chef or Sous Chef bringing dinner to you with a description along with a Sommelier for the wine pairings. While they prepare your meal, you are brought into the experience as they explain what they are doing and give some good cooking tips along the way! The menu changes frequently, but it is always fresh, delicious and surprising!
3. The Show Bar
The kitchen is on full display at Flying Fish, allowing guests to watch their meals being made.  While the Chef’s Counter is a harder seat to come by because it is often used for the Chef’s Tasting Wine Dinner, it is easier to sit at the bar and watch the chefs create delicious meals. The bartenders are always fabulous and fun to talk to and are very knowledgeable about drink pairings. While drinks change often, if you see the Cotton Candy Martini…try it out! It’s going to surprise you, I promise!

2. The Idaho Potato-Wrapped Red Snapper
I first tried this dish 16 years ago and every time I return to the Flying Fish Café, I struggle reading my menu because everything looks so good! As I think about the Scallops, Yellowfin Tuna Filet and Pork Chop, I want to stray but can’t resist ordering my favorite meal! Served with a creamy leak fondue and Veal glace with red wine-cassis butter, your taste buds are sure to freak out and throw a party! The crispiness of the potato crust with the flaky, mild and flavorful snapper inside will make you want to return to the Flying Fish Café time and time again!
1. The Char Crusted Angus New York Strip Steak
My husband loves a good steak and has done a lot of “research” at Walt Disney World. This NY Strip is special. The char crust is beautifully done, blackened due to the seasoning blend used, but still a beautiful medium rare inside. The Foyot Sauce served over the steak is so delicious you won’t believe you don’t put it on everything you eat, a Béarnaise sauce with a meat glaze whisked in. My dining companion suddenly was void of conversation and fully engrossed in his dinner, even closing his eyes on the first bite!  And, while there are many delicious steaks on property, I agree with him that this is the best!
