During the holidays is a wonderful time to visit Disney World. What’s great about Christmas time at Disney is that it starts right after Halloween and runs for about two months. A big part of the festive happenings at Disney World is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom. The party is on select nights at the park in November and December, and it should be on your Disney Bucket List. Here are 5 reasons why we love Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
5. Smaller Crowds
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a special ticketed event, meaning the capacity for the event is much lower than on a regular day. Part of the appeal of the event is that the park is much less crowded, meaning the attractions have very short wait times. It may not feel like there are less people there when you’re watching the parade, or walking down Main Street, but as soon as you venture into the different lands you will notice the crowds are smaller, and the wait times much shorter. Not everyone likes to ride the attractions during the party given that there are so many different special events happening around the park, but if you plan out your evening a little and schedule some time for rides you may find you can get on a lot more attractions than you would on another day at the park. An added bonus is that your party ticket will grant you park access at 4pm, even though the party doesn’t start until 7pm.
4. Holiday Fireworks
For those of you who love Happily Ever After, you may be disappointed to learn that the regular Happily Ever After firework show does not play on the party nights. However, there is a special fireworks show instead called Holiday Wishes, and it is absolutely spectacular! The show is simply breathtaking, and if you’re watching in the hub near the castle, the fireworks seem to happen all around you, they seem panoramic. Holiday Wishes does not disappoint and is definitely worth the price of admission.
3. The Parade
One of the best things about Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade. It’s a 25 minute parade complete with all your favorite Disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, princesses, and some characters we don’t see as often like Clarabelle Cow, Wreck-it-Ralph and Vanellope. One of the highlights of the parade are the marching toy soldiers who play instruments and march in perfect unison. The parade is full of holiday cheer and merriment, festive floats and Santa and his reindeer make an appearance at the end. The parade runs twice a night during the party and we love it so much, we usually watch it twice both times.

2. Meet Rare Characters
One of the big draws of MVMCP is the opportunity to meet rare characters. Guests can meet Santa, but they can also meet the ever-popular Sandy Claws, which is Jack Skellington in his Santa costume. All seven dwarfs gather for a meet and greet, and Scrooge McDuck also comes out for the party with his nephew Donald who is in his winter wear for the occasion. If you have your heart set on these special character meet and greets, it’s a good idea to make that your priority when you arrive for the party. The lines can get long to meet these characters and there are no FastPasses available for these experiences during the party. Grab a party map and times guide and look up where the characters will be and get in line early. Often some of the characters will appear before the party officially kicks off, so it’s not a bad idea to line up a little early.
1. A Perfect Christmas
Disney does a fantastic job of creating the ideal Christmas evening throughout the park during the party. There’s the parade complete with Santa, hot cocoa and cookies available at special spots in the park for free, and special party merchandise. A big contributor to creating the perfect Christmas evening is the nostalgic atmosphere along Main Street USA, especially when it snows! Although it might sound like a small detail, being on Main Street among a perfect snowfall, light and fluffy without the cold, makes you feel like a kid again on Christmas. Main Street is truly picture perfect during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
