5 Best Resorts for Kids at Walt Disney World

Don’t get us wrong: you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy staying at these fabulous Walt Disney World resorts!  But there are certain resorts on property that just seem to have been designed with kids (or kids at heart!) in mind.  You’ll find all sorts of fun elements at these resorts, from larger-than-life Disney icons to delectable desserts to unparalleled pools.  So whether you’re bringing children with you on your next Disney vacation, or just want to feel like a child, check out these 5 resorts!

1. Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Hands-down the best kid-friendly feature at Walt Disney’s Beach Club Resort is its mega-impressive pool complex, Stormalong Bay.  We’d stay here again just because of it, in fact!  Tiny water lovers can play and build sand castles to their hearts’ content in the shallow sandy pool areas, while older kids will be thrilled with the shipwreck waterslides and the lazy river, complete with complimentary tubes.  Fair warning: no matter their age, it will be hard to tear your kids away from Stormalong Bay!

What could be better than having an ice cream shop at your resort?  Beaches and Cream Soda Shop is the place to be for all things ice cream.  You can enjoy a signature milkshake, sundae or cone, or if you’re brave enough, sign up for the Kitchen Sink, which serves four and includes, well, just about everything except the kitchen sink!

Location is another key perk for families with kids at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.  It’ll take you only 5-10 minutes to walk to Epcot’s World Showcase (and about twice that to get to Hollywood Studios).  This can be a serious benefit, especially when faced with a long bus line with kids in tow.

2. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Walt Disney World’s Art of Animation Resort is one of the best resorts for kids, especially if they love Cars, Nemo or Lion King, which are the three theme choices in the family suites!  Families will love having a living room, two bathrooms and a kitchenette as part of their suite – all the comforts and space of home.

This resort is beautifully designed to bring you right into the magic of Disney animation.  You can check out animation sketches from your favorite Disney movies, and pose for selfies with larger-than-life versions of beloved Disney characters.  Kids will love the daily complimentary drawing classes offered by the resort!

Another hit with young guests is the Big Blue Pool, which is the biggest resort pool anywhere in Walt Disney World.  It’s based on Finding Nemo, and even has underwater speakers and an interactive water play area.

3. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Your little ones will never forget their first glimpse of the monorail breezing right through Disney’s Contemporary Resort!  Kids love riding the Walt Disney World Monorail System, which you can take to Magic Kingdom, Epcot and two other deluxe resorts on property.

Kids can set sail on a Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage around the Seven Seas Lagoon, or take advantage of the Pixar Play Zone experience, which is an entire evening of Pixar-themed fun.  Plus, the observation deck and California Grill Lounge are perfect vantage points to watch fireworks!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is within easy walking distance of the Magic Kingdom, which makes it very popular with families with young children.  It’s a great option if you have little ones that need to be back in the room for an afternoon nap.

4. Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

All of your favorite Disney movies come to life at Walt Disney World’s All-Star Movies Resort.  The theming here is the very definition of kid-friendly.  Young Disney guests will be thrilled to wander around the resort grounds and discover giant Dalmatians, a Fantasia-themed pool, and even larger-than-life versions of Andy’s toys, which will make them feel like they’ve shrunk to the size of a toy!

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort has a playground and arcade, in addition to various pools, so you don’t even need to leave the resort to have fun.  And with fun food options like ice cream, pasta, and even pizza delivery to your room, kid-friendly food is everywhere.  We also love the family-friendly pricing of this value resort, which makes it possible for all families to enjoy Walt Disney World!

5. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

We’ve never met a child who wasn’t fascinated with animals, which is why Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a perfect resort for kids!  There are a total of four savannas on the resort grounds that you can view, along with the hundreds of creatures who live there.  You can even keep an eye on your favorite animals at night, using complimentary night vision goggles at the viewing stations!  And of course, we can’t think of a better way to wake up than looking out your window right at a grazing elephant or giraffe!

There are special programs where kids can learn more about the wildlife at the resort, and even get up close and personal with the animals.

A short walk away, the Samawati Springs Pool is always a hit with children – its water playground (Uwanja Camp) will provide them with hours of fun!
