Top 5 Walt Disney World Treats You Must Try

Kringla Bakeri og Kafe's School Bread

Sometimes I feel like I could spend my entire Disney vacation hopping from one snack location to another trying all of the treats that the World has to offer. Of course, there are no calories at Disney and all of that walking makes it perfectly okay to indulge your sweet tooth! Seriously, there are some tasty treats, and some of them you can’t find many other places. Here is my list of the top 5 you really must try on your next vacation:

5. School Bread

This Norwegian treat is found at the Kringla Bakeri og Kafe, and it is a great way to taste Norway. The bun is lightly spiced with cardamom that gives it a wonderful fragrance. It is filled with a vanilla cream and topped with coconut. I would recommend sharing it, if for no other reason than to leave room for more treats as you tour World Showcase! I’ve also been known to pick one up in a to-go container for breakfast the next morning.

4. Strawberry Shortcake

This is a very specific Strawberry Shortcake, the one found in the bakery section of Sunshine Seasons in Epcot’s Land pavilion. This sweet treat is nice and light with layers of cake, a whipped cream and juicy strawberries. Sunshine Seasons is one of my favorite counter service locations, and this Strawberry Shortcake is a big reason for that—I get it every time I go. And if you have other meal plans, you can just stop in and pick one up after riding Soarin’. Delicious!

3. Carrot Cake Cookie

Yummmm!! The Writer’s Stop is no longer at Hollywood Studios but thankfully Sweet Spells offers the Carrot Cake Cookie. Two rounds of moist carrot cake with cream cheese icing sandwiched in between. This is another shareable option since it is large and rich, but you could also eat it on your own a little bit at a time (to savor it you know).

2. Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich

Warning! This is not the ice cream sandwich that you can get from the carts around the world—although that Mickey shaped treat is cute. This is the genuine article ice cream cookie sandwich that is found in some of the permanent quick service locations like the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street and Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square. The Ice Cream Cookie sandwich is made to order with huge cookies with your choice of scooped ice cream in the middle. A totally shareable treat—and a little messy to eat. My favorite way to enjoy this treat is while waiting for Happily Ever After to begin.

1. The Dole Whip

You could probably predict this number one choice. The Dole Whip is the quintessential Walt Disney World treat that you read about everywhere on the internet. And Disney heard the cry of pineapple loving guests by putting the Dole Whip in multiple locations with some “enhancements” in the non-Magic Kingdom spots. The traditional place to get your Dole Whip, however, is in Adventureland from the Aloha Isle. The Dole Whip, which by the way is Pineapple soft serve, can be enjoyed as the plain soft serve or as a float. Added bonus is that it is a cool treat to cool you off on a hot Florida day.

It is tough to narrow down Disney treats to just 5, and I highly recommend indulging in more than 5 on your vacation. These are my “must try” choices—what are yours?

About Sarah Chapman

I am a long time Disney fan since I was hooked on Walt Disney World with my first trip in 1987. Since that time I’ve tried experiencing everything I can in the parks, with a total of 30 visits and counting (I’m always planning my next trip) to Walt Disney World—not to mention Disney Cruise Line and even (shhh!) Universal Orlando and Sea World. I’ve turned my Disney obsession into a profession helping others plan their magical vacations as a Dream Vacation Maker at LBAC Travel. I am a work at home mom to three wonderful boys, and each one has been properly indoctrinated with all things Disney.
