10 Walt Disney World Experiences That Closed Too Soon

2) Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Magic Kingdom, 1971 – 1998 This dark ride was based on Disney’s 1949 release of The Wind in the Willows. The ride was set apart from others by the fact that it operated on two separate tracks. Because the tracks were separate, Guests were offered two different rides within the attraction. On October 22, 1997, The Orlando Sentinel printed a piece about the upcoming closure of the ride, and on October 23, a campaign was launched by diehard Toad fans called “Save the Toad.” Disney received thousands of letters asking them not to go forward with its plans. But to their dismay, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride closed on September 7, 1998. Today, you can ride The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh where Mr. Toad’s ride was. And in the second scene of the Pooh ride, Guests can see a picture on the wall that shows Mr. Toad handing over a deed to the spot at Magic Kingdom to Owl from the Hundred Acre Wood.
