10 Closed Walt Disney World Attractions That We Miss

Main Street Electrical Parade
1) The Main Street Electrical Parade, Magic Kingdom (1977-1991, 1999-2001 and 2010-2016) This nighttime spectacular was the hit on Main Street U.S.A. for the better part of 22 years. This performance that took place each night at the Magic Kingdom featured over 80 live performers covered in thousands of electronically-controlled lights that were synchronized to magical music. Over 11,000 LED lights were worn on the dancers alone. The song played during the parade remains the soundtrack to many Disney fans’ childhood memories of the parks, and fans also remember the vocoder voice effects and the famous words that introduced the parade each night: “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Disney World proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds—the Main Street Electrical Parade!” Mickey, Minnie, Cinderella in her pumpkin coach, Pluto, Goofy, Alice, the White Rabbit and Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Pinocchio and more were the stars on the parade route. The Jolly Roger, Cinderella’s Clock Tower and the Seven Dwarfs’ Diamond Mine were even included in the production. The words from the vocoder voice, the beginning of the music, the look of Main Street U.S.A. as all the lights are simultaneously turned out—all these things plus the anticipation of the upcoming spectacle and dazzling lights bring joy to the hearts and smiles to the faces of Disney fans old and young, who ever chanced to behold this amazement, and we are surely sad to see it gone.
