Please Support Ferris Patrick Martin

Dear Disney Dining Fans, meet Ferris Patrick Martin.  Ferris is the son of my friends Corey and Julie Martin.  You may know them from The DIS.

Here is their story.  After you read it, would you please consider a donation to help.

We were blessed with our son, Ferris Patrick Martin, on January 5, 2009; and, he weighed just 6 lbs. 11oz. He was incredibly tiny and totally perfect in our eyes! We quickly educated ourselves on what it meant to have a child with Down Syndrome.

Ferris was determined from the start, even rolling from his stomach to this back at 17 days old! He loves to swim and thanks to our amazing swim instructor, Mr. Geoff Dawson, he is now swimming independently all over the pool. Some of his other hobbies include reading, dancing, singing, climbing (to the top of his closet…yikes), painting, and giving hugs. Roller coasters are his favorite and this year he was able to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! He has also conquered the Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain and Soarin’ at Walt Disney World!!

Ferris will be 6 years old on his next birthday and we often wonder where the time has gone. Over the past 5 years he has learned to crawl, walk, talk, and swim. He started school on his 3rd birthday and has been on more vacations than most adults.

On March 25, 2010, 15 months after his birth, we welcomed his sister, Finley. They are best friends and often people think they are twins! It truly is a blessing to watch these two grow up together and to see their bond grow deeper with each passing year.

Ferris’ verbal skills improve everyday and he is now up to six word sentences!! He knows and recognizes his own name as well as all the letters in the alphabet. We are now working on writing his name and letters. He is also counting to 10 and memorizing his favorite songs. Music is a huge part of who Ferris is and thanks to the DSACF he was involved in Music Therapy before he started school.

We invite you to help us celebrate and support our son, Ferris, and the DSACF at his 6th Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk!

About Rick Killingsworth

Rick visited the Magic Kingdom in 1971 for the first Christmas parade in their history. At nine years old, he was bitten by the Disney Bug. He can still remember the sights, the smells, and the sounds. It truly was magical. It would be twenty years before he could afford to take his young family back to “The World.” It was the vacation of a lifetime, and they have been fortunate to go hundreds of times since. His daughters, now grown, still tear up when they see the castle (as does he).
