Disney Dining Review Sci-Fi Dine In Theater

Who’s ready to go to the drive in? Sci-Fi Dine In Theater is one of the coolest themed Disney restaurants anywhere on property because you really do feel like you’ve been transported back to the ‘50’s to watch a classic movie at a drive in!

The restaurant is situated at the end of Commissary Lane near the Streets of America. Outside you’ll find a giant neon sign and blue convertible advertising the eatery’s unique theme. You will actually enjoy your meal from the inside of one of these cars! On a quick side note, there are a few normal tables in the back if the idea of sitting in a car doesn’t appeal to you, and on the flip side of that if you do want to eat in a car it won’t hurt to request this at the check in area.

The lobby of the restaurant is outfitted with vintage movie posters like “Attack of the 50Ft. Woman” and “Missile to the Moon.” Take a look around, you might even spot a hidden Mickey, hint hint.

Once seated in our car the waitress promptly took our drink orders. While we did not order one on this particular evening, the milkshakes here are delicious! If you are on the Disney Dining Plan you can get one of these as your beverage, or as your dessert.

It was particularly difficult to decide what we wanted to eat because there are so many wonderful options here! In the end we all opted for something we hadn’t tried before.

For my meal I chose the vegetable burger with sweet potato fries. The burger is topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, grilled onions, arugula, and, my favorite, balsamic vinegar. The burger was filling and had a nice mix of sweet and savory components. The sweet corn in the patty against the peppery arugula and acidic tomato contrasted nicely. I was afraid there would be a skimpy amount of balsamic on the burger and was pleasantly surprised at the nice portion that was drizzled on the vegetables. I absolutely loved the sweet potato fries. These were more sweet than savory as they had some brown sugar and cinnamon sprinkled over top.

One of my dining companions ordered the smoked turkey sandwich. This sandwich features turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado mayonnaise. My dining companion opted for no tomato and a side of fries. His only complaint about the sandwich was that it probably would’ve been better if the bread was toasted. He really liked the multigrain bread that was used though. The avocado mayo and bacon were an excellent combination.

Other dishes ordered were the Reuben and an adult order of chicken nuggets buffalo style. The Reuben was just good, neither amazing nor bad. My friend wanted to order the appetizer popcorn buffalo chicken as his meal and the waitress suggested getting an adult order of chicken nuggets instead as it was more food and cheaper to do that than order the appetizer with a side of fries. The buffalo sauce was spicy, but also had a sweetness to it that my dining companion really enjoyed.

We really enjoyed watching the movie trailers and cartoons that were played on the movie screen. It seemed like everyone was enjoying them, because the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. After our meal was done we were given a “speeding ticket” for our bill. This just goes to show that Disney pulled out all the stops to make Sci-Fi Dine In Theater completely immersive and fun for the whole family! If you have never experienced a meal here I highly recommend using the one table service credit from the Disney Dining Plan that it takes to eat under the stars at the drive in.
