Changes Coming to Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach at Walt Disney World

Disney Parks Blog announced today that there would be changes coming to popular Walt Disney World moderate resorts, Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach.  The changes and development will occur over the next 2 years to create amazing new experiences and accommodations for guests.

At Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, there will be a new 15-story tower added.  The new tower will include 500 new guest rooms which will also include suites and concierge level services.  The new tower will also be the home to a new restaurant at the top of the tower.  This will provide guests the opportunity to view fireworks shows from the top of the restaurant.  Not only will there be new guest rooms, but the resort will also refurbish existing guest rooms and the grounds for the resort.

At Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort the marketplace area of the resort will be re-imagined to create new dining experiences and retail shopping areas.  This will also provide better access to amenities to the resort guests staying there.  These changes should bring new life to this already popular resort.

We look forward to these new changes, and we will keep you posted as we learn more throughout the upcoming stages of development.

These days everyone is looking for an inside source. Information that very few people have access to so that they can have an advantage when booking their vacation. Walt Disney World resort is no different. One of the aspects that some people dismiss when booking their Walt Disney World vacation is their resort. We were once guilt of this ourselves. I mean do you really spend that much time in your resort anyways? We had always stayed at the value level resorts until one vacation we said we wanted to make the upgrade just to see what we were missing. That resort that we choose was Disneys Coronado Springs Resort.

7. Scenic Promenade

Coronado Springs is huge, and surrounds a picturesque 22-acre lagoon. It’s therefore perfect for those who enjoy walking, running, or just enjoying beautiful scenery within your own resort. There’s a .75 mile long promenade that circles around the lagoon, and a jogging trail through a lovely wetlands area, leading to the Ranchos and Cabanas. Paths also connect you from your room to the various pool areas, and other amenities. The lagoon is fringed by numerous well-manicured white sandy beaches, right off the path. There’s no water access, but plenty of hammocks and palm trees set the beautiful beach resort theme. You’ll want to stop for a bit en route to your cabana – take a swing in a hammock, make a sand angel, or just feel the sand between your toes.

6. Complimentary Activities

Unknown to many guests, there are a variety of complimentary activities at many Walt Disney World resorts, and Coronado Springs is no exception. After a full day in the parks, why not bring your family to a complimentary campfire right in the comfort of your resort? You’ll roast marshmallows fire-side as the sun sets (marshmallows and roasting sticks are provided), making memories that will last long after your vacation ends. You may want to stay for another great complimentary activity – the outdoor screening of popular Disney movies, immediately following the campfire. Both activities are, of course, subject to weather conditions. Check with your resort’s front desk for more information!

5. Mayan Grill Restaurant

The Mayan theme continues with Maya Grill, the resort’s Mexican-accented dining room, serving dinner every evening. While eating, you may be lucky enough to be serenaded by excellent live musicians; try for a table near the window for a view of the lagoon. Featuring typical Mexican dishes, the menu includes vegetarian, gluten-free and non-spicy items, so there’s something for everyone. Our favourites? The Queso Fundido appetizer (basically a bowl of fried cheese, eaten with tortillas) and the delicious variety of shot-glass size mini-desserts.

4. La Vida Health Club

The biggest surprise for us was the vast size of the resort. Of course most resorts on Walt Disney World property are enormous, but this is the only mid-level resort which is also a convention center. Because of that, you’ll enjoy amenities that are normally reserved for the deluxe level resorts. The biggest feature here is La Vida Health Club. You already know that no one does anything like Disney. But have you experienced a spa day at Disney?

3. Themed Pool Areas

By far our favorite pool area on Walt Disney World property is Coronado Spring’s Dig Site. A 50-foot Mayan-themed pyramid with a cascading waterfall towers over the massive main pool; nearby, a jaguar waterslide empties into the pool. Each accommodation area also has its own, more private, pool (3 in all), for those wanting to relax away from the main action.

The Dig Site complex, which includes a great children’s playground, is also home to the largest hot tub on property. If sports are more your thing, use your MagicBand to check out a volleyball from Siesta’s Pool Bar, and play a volleyball game on the white sand court by the Dig Site.

2. White Sand Beaches

Yes it’s true that a lot of Walt Disney World resorts have white sand beaches that you can access. A lot of those beaches you can access even if you aren’t staying at that resort. The beaches at Coronado Springs resort are accessible only to those staying at the resort. They have hammocks that you can relax in and are usually noise free and empty of other visotors.

1. Short Bus Rides to All Parks

We’ve stayed at a lot of resorts over the years. Some are short rides to Epcot, some are even attached to theme parks making the trip mere minutes but being close to one almost always means being further away from another. We were blown away that we didn’t have to wait more than 15 minutes on a bus regardless of what park we were visiting that day.

Doing a bit of research on your resort before leaving on vacation can illuminate some hidden treasures that will enhance your stay. All of the aspects listed above are just the tip of the iceberg at Coronado Springs. We have stayed at a lot of resorts on property, but so far this one is by far our favorite, and these extra pro tips make all the difference!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
