5 Things You Will Love About Grand Floridian Café

Each day, thousands of guests pass by the three major Magic Kingdom resorts – the Contemporary, the Polynesian Village, and the Grand Floridian. Most guests are just literally passing through, however, and don’t bother to step inside. But if they did, they’d discover that each of these amazing resorts have a lot to offer, even if you don’t stay there. The Grand Floridian has some of the best restaurants on property, allowing guests to experience its incredible Victorian-inspired beauty while staying in more budget-friendly locations. The Grand Floridian Café in particular is a must-do for everyone!

5. Unique Drinks

While visiting the different Disney parks and resorts, it’s always fun to check out the different drinks and desserts offered. These options are usually unique to each location, so there are plenty of new things to discover. Grand Floridian Café is no exception. They offer sophisticated items with fun twists, so you don’t have to feel intimidated when ordering. Some of the mixed drinks come with glowing, color-changing cubes that give the drink some magic. The Godiva Chocolate Martini is another unique choice, with a creamy, delicious chocolate flavor. They are also one of the restaurants around the parks to offer Disney’s Family of Wine, a selection of wines that are directly linked to Walt Disney or represent his vision.

4. Kid Friendly

Some parents and families might immediately write off a restaurant in as elegant a location as the Grand Floridian, thinking it too fancy for children. This is definitely not the case. Kids of all ages are welcome and will enjoy eating here. The Café is not a quiet, candlelit restaurant. You can be sure that other guests will have kids with them. In addition, the Café has a kid’s menu with a variety of choices that you might not see in other places around the parks, such as fresh salmon and whole-wheat chicken wraps. Don’t worry, they also offer the classic pizza and chicken nuggets. For dessert, children will enjoy the worms in dirt!

3. Amazing Service

Disney is known for wonderful customer service in all areas of their parks, including shops, transportation, resorts, and restaurants. When I dined at the Café with my husband and friends we were given the best service we’ve ever had at a Disney restaurant. We’re all annual passholders too, so we’ve eaten at a lot of different places on property and talked to lots of cast members, and our server that night stood out as especially exceptional. She immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable and had a great sense of humor. She gave us great suggestions for food and drinks and went out of her way to make sure we had an amazing time. By the end of the meal, I felt like we were good friends! She was so fantastic that we stopped a restaurant manager to tell her how great our server was (the manager was very nice too). Even though this was only one cast member out of the many that work at Grand Floridian Café, I have no doubt you will have an equally great experience.

2. Surf and Turf Burger

Yes, this burger alone is one of the main reasons to eat here. Do yourself a favor and order it. My pasta dish was great too, but after tasting the burger my husband ordered, I immediately regretted not getting it. It is a delicious, juicy Angus burger on a brioche bun topped with the most amazing buttery lobster. The lobster melts in your mouth and goes so well with the beef. It definitely sounded strange at first, but it will probably end up being one of your favorite burgers. I am absolutely ordering one for myself next time, which might be bad because I probably won’t try anything else on the menu now!

1. Beautiful location

This may be the most obvious reason to eat here because, after all, it is in the Grand Floridian Resort. The resort is something you have to see, even if you never stay there. The grounds and landscaping is perfect, the lobby is magnificent, and the Disney details are amazing. The Café is beautiful with tons of windows looking out at the courtyard letting in plenty of natural light. The band playing in the lobby adds to the timeless atmosphere.   Even though it’s elegant, it’s not super upscale and exclusive, and you definitely don’t need to feel intimidated. The good food combined with the beautiful location make this a special dining experience. After all, sometimes it’s good to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom and eat a nice, relaxing meal at a resort only a monorail ride or water taxi away.

The Grand Floridian Café is the perfect mix of classy and family friendly. Give it a try next time you’re at the parks. And don’t forget the Surf and Turf Burger!

About Margaret Gooden

Margaret lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, but doesn't let that stop her from making monthly trips to Orlando. She and her husband went to Disney World on their honeymoon in 2012 and have been hooked ever since. Her biggest Disney obsessions are the Haunted Mansion, pin trading, and the chicken waffle sandwich at Sleepy Hollow. She's also very proud of her Dumbo tattoo. When Margaret is not at Disney (or making the 8 1/2 hour drive back and forth) she enjoys studying American history, listening to classic rock, and playing with her ridiculously tiny dog Cricket.
