5 Things You Will Love About Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Oh, Chef Mickey’s Fun Time Buffet. How I love thee. When friends ask me for a recommendation for dining at Walt Disney World, I always include Chef Mickey’s because it is exactly what most families are looking for when they attend this magical place. Chef Mickey’s is located in the Contemporary Resort, one of the three original Walt Disney World hotels from 1971.   The Contemporary Resort is a huge hot spot, due to its desirable location and many activities. Along with restaurants and shops, the Contemporary has a full convention center and club level rooms. There is access to Bay Lake with water sports and rentals and is the only place you can parasail on property. Add in all of the pool activities, the large arcade and bridge access to Bay Lake Tower, a DVC property, the Contemporary resort is a very busy resort. Chef Mickey’s is a difficult reservation to score! Located on the Grand Canyon Concourse next to the Contempo Café, you’ll often see people sitting and waiting for the opportunity to get into Chef Mickey’s and here are the top 5 reasons you want your name on that list!

5. The Fab 5

This is the only restaurant at Walt Disney World that guarantees you will see the entire Fab 5 together! Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy and Donald walk around from table to table to make sure that each family has a chance to meet each character. They sign autographs, take pictures and are always down for a good time! They are also patient, which is really nice. Often in the parks, so many people are in line waiting to meet that characters, that families tend to rush through the meet and greet. But, at Chef Mickey’s, they keep coming back to you! It is a super experience for young kids…and the young at heart.

4. There is something for everyone!

Buffets are a huge hit with my family because it really takes away the chance for arguing or frustration, especially with the picky eaters. For breakfast, there a variety of excellent choices including omelets, Mickey waffles, French toast, breakfast potatoes and biscuits and gravy. Dinner choices include carved spice rubbed beef and oven roasted turkey, mango BBQ pork ribs, baked salmon, orecchiette pasta and oven roasted chicken. And, there are a ton of side dishes and desserts on the buffet for both breakfast and dinner. You definitely want to try the parmesan mashed potatoes! And, the food is good! I know buffets get a bad reputation, but you’ll really enjoy this selection!

3. The Location

If you haven’t been to Walt Disney World before or you are not familiar with the Contemporary Resort, this is the resort that the monorail goes through! Not only will you feel like a celebrity at Chef Mickey’s while the people inside the monorail get a chance to see you enjoying yourself, but getting onto the monorail is quick and easy to bring you to Magic Kingdom! If you are not going to fit Magic Kingdom into your day, there are viewing areas in the Contemporary that will allow you to still feel like you are part of the show!

2. The Sundae Bar

Perhaps one of my favorite dessert experiences on property, the sundae bar is truly awesome. First, what kid doesn’t like a make your own sundae bar? Second, what adult doesn’t like a make your own sundae bar? With lots of toppings choices, you can make whatever you heart desires. And, my really favorite part? They also have other desserts if you can’t get enough dessert. Peach cobbler, rice crispy treats and warm bread pudding to name a few…I mean, it is all you care to eat, right?

1. The Disney Feels

There is nothing quite like making Disney dreams come true for children. As an Aunt, I know that my very favorite part of any Disney Vacation is seeing the way my nephews respond to the magical experiences they have. When I told them that we were going to Mickey Mouse’s favorite restaurant and that he was bringing his favorite pals along to eat dinner with us, they started getting really excited. Along with the hugs and kisses from the characters, the dancing and singing activities during dinner, the choosing their own dinner and desserts and watching fireworks from the balcony of the Contemporary, Chef Mickey’s can provide your family with a wonderful experience you won’t soon forget!
