10. The creation of multiple theme parks When Walt Disney World opened in October of 1971, Magic Kingdom was the only theme park. When the resort opened, Guests could only visit Magic Kingdom, and it was fabulous! But in the fall of 1982, Walt Disney World opened EPCOT—Disney’s Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Then in May of 1989, the resort saw the addition of its third theme park—Disney-MGM Studios, now called Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The fourth and most recent park to be added at Disney is Animal Kingdom, which opened on April 22, 1998.
